A man interrupted the scattering of his grandmother's ashes off a Melbourne pier to rescue a small dog that was drowning after it was blown into the rough water.
Sue Drummond was walking her pet Bibi, a Maltese-shitzu cross, when winds of over 60mph blew the tiny dog off Brighton Pier and into Melbourne's bay.
As Ms Drummond looked on helplessly, the dog desperately tried to swim towards the pier as galeforce winds blew the animal further out to sea.
Luckily for Bibi, Raden Soemawinata was on the pier to scatter his grandmother's ashes with his family.
After seeing the dog in distress, the 20-year-old interrupted the solemn family ceremony, stripped down to his underwear and jumped into the water to rescue the dog.
