24 PICS Nancy Rose has a bunch of squirrels living in the backyard of her home in Halifax, Canada, whom she has been photographing for a couple of years. They are curious animals who would inspect anything she put out on her picnic table, looking for places where she could have hidden some peanuts. Nancy decided to make some little props for them to explore and capture the fun on camera. 1 Comment 33 PICS A huge public works project is currently under construction in New York City, connecting Long Island to Manhattan's East Side. Deep underground, rail tunnels are extending from Sunnyside, Queens, to a new Long Island Rail Road terminal being excavated beneath Grand Central Terminal. Construction began in 2007, with an estimated cost of $6.3 billion and completion date of 2013. Since then, the cost estimate has been raised to $8.4 billion, and the completion date moved back to 2019. When finished, the line will accommodate 24 trains per hour at peak traffic, cutting down on commute times from Long Island, and opening up access to John F. Kennedy International Airport from Manhattan's East Side. Collected here are images of the progress to date, deep beneath Queens and Manhattan. 16 PICS Melbourne-based graphic designer Dan Fleming combines typography with playful illustrations in this series, entitled Word Animals. Specializing in brand identity and logo design, the half British, half Australian artist uses the actual letters from each creature's name to build all kinds of silhouetted animals, including a crocodile, a platypus, a giraffe, a penguin, a pig, a snail, even an owl. 14 PICS + 2 VIDS An extraordinary vehicle that was constructed in the Auto & Technik MUSEUM SINSHEIM‘s workshops under the project name “Brutus“ After World War I, Germany was forced to disarm under the Treaty of Versailles, which meant there were a few plane engines knocking around. And in 1925, one of them found its way into BMW's hands. |
